What We Build
Laverty Log Homes builds handcrafted log homes, Scandinavian full-scribe cabins, timber frame structures, and complex hybrid builds that combine both. Every project is custom, designed around your site, your vision, and the specific character of the timber chosen for your build.
Notable completed projects include the Killarney Mountain Lodge — a large-scale resort build on the shores of Georgian Bay — a full scribe round log home in Sauble Beach, a Scandinavian log home in Haysville, a Muskoka lakeside cottage, a log home in Kincardine, and a CLT cabin getaway in Quebec. Laverty has also completed commercial timber frame projects, including an exposed wood truss roof system.
The shop is in Baden, Ontario and our team travels for the right project anywhere in Canada and across North America.

Why Traditional Methods?
Every Laverty build uses the Scandinavian full-scribe technique so each log is individually traced and carved by hand to fit the exact contour of the log below it. No chinking. No gaps. No filler. Just wood sitting on wood, the way it has for centuries in Northern Europe. The result is a shell that’s inherently tight, naturally energy-efficient, and impossible to replicate on an assembly line.
Earl and his team work with European hand tools — axes, adzes, scribers, chisels — shaping each log individually. The joinery includes dovetails, shrink-fit saddle notches, compound valley connections, and hand-cut heavy timber roof systems: trusses, purlins, rafters. The kind of structural work most builders avoid because it requires skill that can’t be programmed.
The double-gasket system Laverty engineers into every joint prevents drafts and water infiltration. The thermal mass of solid logs regulates interior temperature naturally. These aren’t selling points; they’re the physics of how a well-built log home performs for the next two hundred years.
“Earl’s craftsmanship for log building is second to none, but equally as important, Earl took the time to understand our goals and needs to help give us advice along the way.”

Quality Partners
Laverty Log Homes is an active member of The International Log Builders Association (ILBA), the leading professional body for handcrafted log construction in North America. Earl has served six years on the ILBA board of directors, including as Vice President, and helped develop the Effective Practices and Methods standards the industry builds to.
Laverty uses Dietrichs North American‘s 3D CAD software to model and engineer complex wood and heavy timber connections before a single log is shaped. For intricate roof systems, compound valley connections, and large-scale structural designs, this precision at the design stage is what makes the pre-assembly process work flawlessly on site.
Laverty protects finished timber with Sansin wood treatments. They are professional-grade, low-VOC finishes that preserve and protect the wood while allowing it to breathe naturally. Sansin’s range of standard and custom colours means the final finish can be matched precisely to your vision without compromising the integrity of the wood.
